By decision of the extraordinary congress of April 27, 2024, the Parti communiste du Québec is now renamed Action socialiste de libération nationale (ASLN).
The ASLN, as its name indicates, considers that the immediate objectives of the Quebec proletariat are the national liberation of Quebec through its accession to full political independence, the separation of Quebec from colonialist and imperialist Canada, and the establishment of socialism in the Republic of Quebec that will be born of this independence. The ultimate goal, however, remains communism.
The ASLN has abandoned the title of Communist Party, because such an appellation is something to be earned, not a crown that any organization can wear, without real support from the working masses, without having unified the country’s communists. The ASLN hopes to play a part in this unification of Quebec communists, in raising awareness and organizing the Quebec working class to create a genuine Communist Party of Quebec.
The ASLN has reaffirmed, among other things by amending its statutes, that its theoretical foundation is now more than ever Marxism-Leninism. The ASLN adheres fully and entirely to Leninist conceptions of socialist revolution, including its organizational principles, the dictatorship of the proletariat, and the role and convergence of national liberation struggles and the workers’ movement of the dominant countries in defeating imperialism. The ASLN therefore firmly reiterates its membership of the international communist movement and its support for the anti-imperialist camp.
The ASLN sees itself as a direct continuation of the struggles of the Quebec people, from the Patriotes of 1837-1838 to the national and workers’ movement of the 1960s-1970s. It is the revolutionary heritage of our people that we are waving as our banner, and bringing up to date with the conditions of the 21st century. National independence and socialist revolution are the only guarantees of freedom for our people, and for all the peoples of the world.
To conclude with the words of Comrade Lenin, which guide our action and which we make our rallying cry:
PROLETARIANS AND OPPRESSED PEOPLES OF ALL COUNTRIES, UNITE!
